Brad Pitt Writing Divorce Guide

NEW YORK – Brad Pitt, who suggests that the best way for men on the verge of divorce to maintain their privacy is by moving to a different hotel every few days, was in New York briefly over the weekend to announce that he is writing a self-help book for men. Tentatively entitled “Break It Like Brad,” the book will be published by St. Martin’s Press in the fall of 2006.

“The blissful conclusion of my recent marriage has taught me that marriage can’t be defined by its length,” said Pitt, who admitted that for a time he was depressed by articles suggesting his marriage to Jennifer Aniston was a failure because it had ended after four and a half years.

“Then I realized,” said Pitt, “as I was walking along a beach in Kenya, that the true measure of a marriage is the way it ends, not how long it lasts. This realization inspired me to help other men who want to bring their marriages to satisfying conclusions. That’s why I’m writing this book. Call me a romantic, but I believe every marriage deserves a happy ending.”

Remy Auchincloss, who is Pitt’s editor at St. Martin’s, called the proposal for “Break It Like Brad” one of the “most sensitive, moving treatments of this difficult topic” he has ever seen.

“Fifty percent of all marriages end in divorce,” said Auchincloss, “And 90 percent of those end in acrimony. Brad considers that a tragedy. He wants other men who are carrying on with someone impossibly sexy and a dozen years younger than themselves to understand that this does not disqualify them from experiencing the joy of a happy divorce.”

Neither Auchincloss nor Pitt would discuss the particulars of “Break It Like Brad,” although Pitt did observe that material possessions were “immaterial” compared to peace of mind.

“Houses in Malibu are a dime a dozen,” he said, “but a lasting divorce is priceless.”

A junior editor at St.Martin’s who has seen the proposal for “Break It Like Brad” called it “spiritual, yet sensible, an invaluable guide for men who want to look and feel their best while redirecting their emotional commitments.”

In other news, President Bush declared that he is troubled by the number of reporters who think Koran is spelled Qur’an.
