The Instant Gratification Sports Network Debuts

The Instant Gratification Sports Network (IGSN), a new streaming service designed for viewers who consider traditional sports “too time‑consuming,” debuted this week with a slate of games compressed to ninety seconds each.
IGSN executives say the service caters to fans who want the thrill of competition without the inconvenience of following it for hours.
The IGSN initiative is led by Lenora Quist, Ph.D., 58, chief compression officer, best known for condensing Hamlet into a fourteen‑second TikTok that still earned two tenure reviews.
“Our research shows the modern fan’s attention span is roughly equal to that of a distracted ferret,” said Tad ‘Metrics’ Blevins, 43, director of fan analytics, who once attempted to summarize a super bowl using only emojis.
IGSN’s proprietary algorithm, overseen by Rico Dampworth, 29, lead algorithm officer, identifies the most exciting moments of any contest and discards the rest. Dampworth previously worked at a startup that auto‑summarized wedding vows into bullet points.
“People don’t want the whole game,” he explained. “They want the part they’ll talk about about later.”
Commercials have been adapted to fit the network’s tempo. IGSN’s micro‑ads run 0.7 seconds each and consist of one image, one syllable, or one alarming noise. For advertisers seeking more exposure, stacked ads display up to twelve micro‑ads simultaneously, allowing viewers to absorb whichever one their brain focuses on accidentally.
Overtime, long considered a bane to the impatient, has been eliminated. In its place, IGSN offers Synthetic Overtime—an eleven‑second clip of two teams appearing to try harder—and the Outcome Randomizer, which assigns winners based on jersey color and “vibes.”
Premium subscribers, who can opt for extended three-minute game recaps, can also choose from three different endings: heroic comeback, tragic collapse, or everyone blames the referee.
“Sports should be something you can finish before your coffee cools,” said Marcy Pottle, 37, VP of viewer retention, who invented the “Skip to the Part You’ll Talk About” button.
“IGSN finally delivers that.”
