LeBron James Is Demanding a Trade from Himself

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The NBA has dealt with disgruntled superstars before, but nothing like the news that LeBron James is demanding a trade from himself. The stunning move cites irreconcilable differences, declining patience, and growing concerns about the direction of his career.
James, 41, submitted the request after a lengthy meeting with himself that ended when both parties accused the other of failing to show leadership.
“I have tremendous respect for LeBron James, but at this stage of my career, I need to surround myself with people who share my commitment to winning,” LeBron said.
His agent, Rich Paul, 45, confirmed that several teams had expressed interest in acquiring James, although none was willing to assume responsibility for his grievances, media obligations, or annual personnel recommendations, including the care and feeding of Bronne.
Paul emphasized that the trade request was unrelated to recent accusations that LeBron disrespected the national anthem before a game against the New York Knicks.
“LeBron has nothing but respect for the anthem,” Paul said. “His disagreement is with LeBron James, who has repeatedly failed to meet LeBron James’ expectations.” Paul declined to say whether James had discussed the controversy with himself. League officials remain uncertain about which LeBron has the authority to approve the trade.
One Eastern Conference executive described James as an attractive acquisition but questioned whether the franchise could accommodate two LeBrons, particularly if neither accepted a supporting role.
Negotiations have been complicated by James’ demanded that any prospective team build its offense around him while reducing his dependence on himself.
NBA officials are reviewing whether a player can be traded without changing teams, uniforms, or locker assignments. League attorneys have also raised questions about who would receive the customary farewell tribute, the championship rings, and the pre-owned Kia.
Meanwhile, James has instructed Paul to explore every available option, including the waiving of his no-trade clause.
